There are actually two extra pins per package.
Is the vinyl thick enough to keep the cats claws from penetrating it?
Cat Scratch Guards™ are .019 gauge high quality marine grade vinyl and cats simply do not claw at where these furniture protectors are attached.

No more damage than a safety pin if taken out carefully.
